d = √2(rh)

Two men meet on the shore. One runs from a point and the other toward one, on the other side of the horizon. Passing the baton on. They run a relay race from horizon to horizon. They run from eternity, toward eternity, into eternity. The end is unforeseeable. The baton itself carries both an unspoken message and a set of instructions.

Into this steel cylinder, a mathematical equation has been engraved. The equation calculates the world, specifically the visible world, to determine the distance from the horizon. A point on a map or in the landscape determines our field of vision. If the point moves, so does the horizon. If we are the point itself, can we then run into the horizon? Must that be possible? Or is it precisely meant to be impossible? We run blindly toward the point until we find the next one somewhere beyond the horizon.

On the steel baton, there are sweaty fingerprints of ours and the other runners, as cryptic as the formula, yet perhaps just as important a message to eternity. Like runic carvings in sacred places. I am here. A message into eternity. But for what purpose? So that our Sisyphean futility might be recorded? Does our shared meaninglessness itself give us meaning? Keep the heart beating? To hand over the steel baton, dripping with sea and sweat. Is that a beauty that can be passed on? Endlessly.

d = √2(rh)

Gefur hið sameiginlega tilgangsleysi okkur tilgang, heldur hjartanu gangandi? Að gefa stálkeflið löðrandi í sjó og svita, er það fegurð sem gefa má áfram? Endalaust.
